E is for... EXHAUSTED

Wheww! Thanks to everyone who stopped by and said hello, gave a wave, high-five, shared a laugh, or bought books from me and Kyle! It was a wonderful show and I had a great time tabling with BFF and collaborator KO. Happy to have more copies of Half Asleep out in the world (don't forget! You can order online too!)

Coming soon to the shop will be all of the new tote bag designs (some are limited edition and will NOT be printed again!) and volume 5 of Half Asleep.

I'm working hard on volume 6 which has proven to be the most challenging yet! Here are a few sneak peaks into volume 6!

Ayy, Check It B-)

Ok guys, here's what you've all been waiting for: Sacha's Lists of Things About CAKE. Below are some of the people I am not very familiar with, but am really looking forward to getting familiar with!

New and Potential Faves 2016

I picked up a copy of Possum Girl and Onion Boy at CAKE 2015, and I absolutely adored them.

Alex Nall gave an amaaazing performance at Zine-Fest-Not-Dead back in April. It started out as a tribute to Mr. Rogers' Neighborhood, but developed into a hilarious collection of moments teaching small children. I don't know too terribly much about Alex Nall and I haven't read too many of his comics, but I'm really looking forward to seeing what he's got for CAKE!

I remember that Nick Jackson had a very moving performance at Brain Frame 2014 about his time in the Peace Corps. Nick's such a nice guy and from looking at his social media, he's been doing a lot of collage work. I have little to no idea what to expect, but I can assure you, it's gonna be great.

Tune in later tonight to see my absolute DO-NOT-MISS list as well as my CARTOONISTS-I-KNOW-AND-LOVE-DEARLY list!! For now, this is Sacha peacing out c:

Where in the world is BETH??

Sometimes, finding an artist at a convention can prove to be pretty challenging, especially at this very dense convention in particular. Lucky for you, my comic patriots, I have so carefully painted up Beth Hetland's location on this official CAKE map using my trackpad

((wow, put this piece in the MOMA))
Seems pretty simple to find. Just walk right in, take an immediate right and presto!
This year, Beth will be located at table 33a, along with Luke Howard. This dude recently got his book, Talk Dirty to Me, published through Adhouse Books. Check out his website and his tumblr!!

Later this summer, the duo Beth and Luke will be co-teaching a summer workshop at the Center for Cartoon Studies from July 11-15. If that is something you would like to attend, click here to register!

At 1 PM on Saturday June 11, Beth will be a part of this super cool panel called "Making Freelance Work(shop)" along with Tyrell Cannon and Ezra Clayton Daniels, moderated by Mike Freiheit. They'll be discussing their professional practice and working as freelancing artists! Definitely be there!

whoof, what a bunch of information I just threw at you. It's overwhelming, I know. Take a deep breath, and daydream about CAKE (aka your new happy place)

This is Sach-bo, blasting off again xoxo

C is for...

Chicago Alternative Comics Expo!!!
You Should Go to There!

Ok, guys. Today marks the official CAKE-is-less-than-one-week-away day!
"What in the world is CAKE? Is this a dessert convention?"
"But Sacha, where would I go to meet Beth and Kyle in their radiant glory?"
"What kinds of things can I check out at their super sweet table?"
"How could I possibly-"
I will tell you! Right now! Stop asking things for a second!

CAKE is a magical place where alternative dreams come true. Come say hey to some of your fave comic artists (or, like me, stumble over your words and look like an absolute dunce), attend some super radical workshops, and spend every cent you have supporting these amazing human beings' work! It's a super cool space with super friendly faces!

(That's Sam Alden circa 2014!!! On the left! In the flesh!!! Comics ppl are very cute and nice!!)
CAKE is the Chicago Alternative Comics Expo located at the Center on Halsted (3656 N Halsted Ave Chicago, IL). A good indicator of the arrival at your destination is the giant Whole Foods that lives below the Center on Halsted. It will take place this Saturday and Sunday, June 11/12 from 11 AM to 6 PM. I suggest going as long as you possibly can, because 14 hours is not nearly enough to absorb all the talent under this roof. More info on CAKE can be found here on their website.

Now, what cool things will Beth have available this year at CAKE 2016? Well, lemme tell ya, she's gonna have some gooood stuff. The items for sale will include: Half Asleep volumes 1-5, Breakfast with Beth, Fugue, the infamous and incredibly complicated Pizza Books (which is not solely about pizza OR made of pizza, just an fyi), Cycles, and cute, cute tote bags!

Excited for CAKE? Are you so excited for CAKE that it's scaring you a little bit?

Because it's just that awesome.
Stay tuned for more information on Beth's whereabouts, books for sale, and my very own CAKE advice and that I have just for you!
Anyways, until next time, this is Sacha signing off xoxo

"Should I spend this much money on comics? Can I get away with not buying groceries for the next year?"
"Of course I can! Food doesn't last, but comics? Comics are forever. Nice."

The moment you've been waiting for!

Good Intern-tions

(Your New Idol)

Hello, to all you comics enthusiasts! Long time no post! Been a while since Beth has posted on the blog (sheesh...)
You are probably wondering why Beth would be referring to herself in the third-person. Well wonder no longer, my comic warriors! This is her fresh new intern reporting for duty!
My name is Sacha Lusk, and I am halfway through my education at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. I enjoy comics, making people cringe, petty drama that doesn't involve me, and a good man with a strong jawline. I am 5'3" and a Leo, so you'd better watch out. Here's a link to my Behance with most of my work.

I am currently in Canada crashing a wedding, seeing the sights, etc., but I won't let that stop me from keeping you all updated on Beth's activities! I must go now, for I am being summoned by the 4 ft deep pool at this Best Western. More posts to come so stay tuned, my friends.
Sick to meet you all!

(I took this with my foot. I promise that I am wearing pants)
