No knot unties itself

Happy 100 posts, dear readers!! Wow, we sure have come a long way since that fateful day two summers ago when I decided Livejournal was over and got myself a fancy blogger account. And even more has happened since I vowed to post every week because of the amazing inspiration I felt from Professional Practices. I've completed three big books, gone to many cons, earned my MFA, moved halfway across the country and played a LOT of pinball. No need to travel down memory lane through text, check out an old post for yourself!

In future news, Chicago looks and smells like springtime. Although I am majorly bummed for the weakass winter we've had, I am very pleased by the feeling of springtime when it's SUPPOSED to feel like springtime! Something about this weather makes me want to devour book after book. And devour I have! I got one of my fellow faculty's books last week, Treasure Island!!!, and absolutely LOVED it. It was the perfect thing to kick off my spring/summer reading frenzy. I blasted through that book in about 3 days. I highly recommend it. I've also started reading a book that many folks have prodded me to pursue, The Amazing Adventures of Kavelier and Clay, which is a fictional story about a real time in comic's history. So far, it's great.

And of course some comics reading also. Two of my very good friends have REAL KID books coming out THIS month! The first one I promptly had my local book store order for me, Leo Geo and His Miraculous Journey Through the Center of the Earth!!

Don't forget to check out Jon's blog and the Fizzmont Institute of RAD Science which is where Leo Geo blogs!

The second I'm very excited to say I'm going to pick up TODAY from my local comic book shop. I'll be sure to post an equally excited picture of myself holding that book, too. And be sure to check out Joe's blog!

As promised!

I would love to stay and chat more, but I'm cleaning house and getting groceries for in preparation for the one and ONLY Mr. Ben Horak to come and visit! I'll keep ya'll posted about our wacky adventures as BH and BH run around the city!

Thanks to all the hustlers

SPRANG BRAKE!!! Or at least it is here at the grand old School of the Art Institute. My students are all off dancing in the sunlight and summer-feeling weather... slash they're cooped up in their houses working on their projects for my class. (Sorry dudes.) Here at Hetland HQ, it's not all fun and games. There's a lot of work to be done for the rest of the semester as well as before the heavy convention season picks up.

Kyle and I got our proof from our printers and it looks soooo stellar. Unfortunately we combed through it and had to return it until we get the final ones so I don't have a sneaky peak picture for you all out there in the in-tar-net. Sorry friends, but now it's just a waiting game until we get all of our books! Be sure to pre-order over at the store!

Kyle and I also have our big Victory Lap day planned on Friday. Watching all the movies we love to watch, eating homemade baked French Toast, burritos, kettle corn, and enjoying our success. Basically being bums.

BUT I've been spending a lot more time working on FUGUE three. It's going slow, but I've got a lot of support and I feel confident that with all my "brick collecting" I'll have enough to build something pretty soon.

Bricks.

Sketchbook thoughts.

Higher than the Empire State

Woo!! Thanks for everyone who stopped by at ZineFest! I had a blast hanging out and chatting.

Big old shout out to Penina! Thanks for coming it was SO good to see you my dear. And I'm glad I could fill your belly to bursting.

And Ian McDuffie and Ben Bertin, always a pleasure!

I've been working on some smaller projects, and tying up some loose ends I've let dangle for about a month or so. This is a preview for the Diary Tunes friends, coming soon to a mailbox near you!

Organized all of my teaching stuff, (YES PLASTIC SLEEVED BINDERS!) as well as put all the originals of Cycles into plastic sleeves and a big fatty binder. So that project is officially moved off my desk!

Speaking of Cycles, if you head over to the Store you'll notice two NEW things up. Online sales for FUGUE Part 2 (finally) as well as PRE-ORDERS for Cycles!! Hooray! Check it out, order somethin' if you want. Or just say HEEEYYYYY.

Right now it's time to square away my prep for school for the rest of the year, continue drafting FUGUE Part THREE, and get excited for some AWESOME conventions!

WAT

This Saturday!! From 11am until 6pm I'll be at 1104 S. Wabash on the 8th floor selling COMICS!

Come by and see me! You can pick up your very own copy of Fugue Parts 1 and 2 as well as peruse over some small minis.

I'll also have a preview copy of Cycles and will be accepting Pre-order information. VERY exciting. But since the book only just went to the printer, it won't be ready to go until just before April.

Hope to see you there!
