burn, baby, burn

Happy Wednesday, it's your weekly dose of Hooray for Comics! As I'm still getting used to my new work schedule from my new totally awesome job, and trying to finish my comic for SPX, I'm a wee bit tired. This update will be short so I can keep plugging away at my massive to-do list.

Last week was Tom (Kyle's roommate)'s birthday, so we went out to Emporium the amazing arcade bar. I like that place a lot, I just wish it had more pinball machines.

They do have Bride of Pinbot which is quickly moving up my list of favorite games, and Space Jam which is a hilarious movie inspired game. But as far as arcade games go, you can't beat the 4-player Turtles in Time game!

What you can't hear is Kyle yelling, "Stop posing and start playing!"

We also spent a good amount of time playing the NEW expansion pack for Settlers of Catan called Cities and Knights. Complex but fun.

But enough of that bizz-nass, how about some comic updates? I'm currently inking page 12 which means I'm about 1/3rd of the way through with my inks. I've been drawing everyday so far, and hopefully I'll be done inking before Labor Day weekend. Here's a drawing of my parent's house

And something cool that happened is I took my new co-worker to the library and she found my books and checked them out!

That's all for now, wacky Wednesday word readers! Tune in next week for an inking update!

Previously on...

Happy Wednesday, dear readers! This past week has been full of fun and excitement and a whole lot of drawings. In case you didn't know, I started penciling Fugue 3 on August 4th and FINISHED penciling on August 10th. BOOM. Granted these are rough, rough, rough pencils, but never the less, they are completed. Which means time to tighten stuff up and sling some ink around! Here's some inking in progress:

I got to throw in a quick trip home to see the summer musical and watch the totally awesome Meteor Shower at my parent's house which is way out in the country. Lots of good friends were seen and lots of needed family time was had. And some quality time with this guy:

But before I went home, I got to go hang out with my favorite pair of wizardrock brothers, Harry and the Potters! They put on an amazing show as always, and Kyle, Amanda and I had a great time.

Oh yeah, Potter Puppet Pals were there too!

PLUS I got to get the last few of the buttons I designed for them! They sold out!

I suppose the biggest news I have for you, dear readers, is that I've been hired in a new job! I still am teaching at SAIC, but now I'm ALSO the Retention Specialist at SAIC. This means that I work with students who are about to graduate or who have left the school without finishing their degrees and I cheer them on and help them out to complete and earn their degrees! I'm pretty excited about it, but I'm a little sad... my office is so, so empty...

Won't you send me some (OFFICE APPROPRIATE) artwork for me to hang? If you'd like to send something and need my address, email me! beth.hetland@gmail.com

Till next time, true believers!

Oh yeah!

One of the many wonderful reasons I love living in Chicago is that it's the largest airplane hub in the US WHICH MEANS, when friend's flights get fucked, they get to stay the night with good ol' Beth! Friends who also plan to be in town are pretty great too. In fact, the one and only Penina Gal is here right now!

This past week marks the occasion that I finally finished thumbnailing Fugue 3. It only took me a year and 3 MONTHS! But hopefully that means it's not a steaming pile of boom-boom. I've been fighting the good fight and slogging my way through pencils. I'm just over half way! Hooray!

I don't want to show too much because, well heck, you're just going to have to keep waiting a little bit. I'm working my buns off to finish this puppy ONCE AND FOR ALL for SPX2012. So here's my motto these days:

Kyle has recently become obsessed with the game Settlers of Catan (I'm sure some of you know this game...) the other night he bought the expansion pack so we could play with 6 people... needless to say, I kicked some butt the first round. Here's our motley crew:

But don't worry, dear readers, even though it feels like I'm neck deep in projects, I still manage to fit in some summer-fun times

And tonight, I get to go see one of my all-time favorite bands ever, Harry and the Potters. Here's the other button image I made for them. I can't wait to see it (and them) in person.

Until next time, look for minute to minute updates via twitter (@bethhetland) and keep those lips licked for Fugue 3!

Do what you feel now

Internet friends! Be sure to check out the awesome review of Cycles by Rob Clough I posted the other day. I hope summer is treating you well. I know I have been able to bike, swim, watch movies, eat food and see some great friends. This past week I was able to hang out with cool cats Neil Brideau, Sam Sharpe and Jeremy Sorese before Jeremy makes his epic journey from Chicago to new adventure.

A short update this week as I'm very excited about the soon-to-be-future of projects in my life. Fugue has finally started flowing again and I look forward to actually penciling some pages and listening to a new Audiobook. (suggestions welcome!)In the mean time, I've been cutting and folding a lot of origami for Bailliwik so I would order one of those if I were you!!

I was also able to babysit this cute little lady last weekend and watch some of the olympics

Till next week friends! Maybe I'll have some pencils to share with you...
